Hydrocarbon production in Indonesia mainly takes place in the Jangkrik gas field. The plant is active thanks to the Floating Production Unit (FPU) that connects 10 subsea wells. The fields are located within the Muara Bakau block, in the offshore Kutei basin. Local LNG production plays a strategic role, supporting the security of supply internationally as well as the energy transition.
The Jangkrik project took up the challenge of building all the gas treatment and processing modules in one large integrated module in Indonesia , whilst building the hull of the floating production unit at the same time in Korea. We developed the project with an excellent time-to-market, exploiting synergies with the terminal in Bontang and with other natural gas production activities that we perform in the same area. This was also made possible thanks to the application of our proprietary technologies, particularly in exploration and engineering.

Fast development in LNG production
‘Jangkrik’ is an Indonesian word meaning cricket. We chose this name with the aim of making the project fast like the insect that, despite being small, is able to take large leaps that allow it to move quickly. . Due to the applied innovations, the first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) produced from the Indonesian field left the Bontang liquefaction plant for Bali shortly after the site opened.
Along with our exploration, development and production activities, we have launched several environmental protection and training projects and initiatives on the ground and have promoted access to energy, water and medical care for the population, confirming our commitment to the communities living in the operational areas of East Kalimantan, Papua and North Sumatra.
